Snowdrops

Phew, after all that history and industry, let's escape outside. Despite it being the middle of March, however, this hardly qualifies as a 'Springtime in Saltaire' scene. The sun has little warmth as yet and the trees are not yet properly in bud. But the snowdrops are an early herald, promising better things to come. The main advantage of winter is that you see far more through the leafless trees. I think this is an attractive vista. I was standing in the grounds of Saltaire United Reformed Church, looking down to the canal and across to the New Mill with its ornate chimney. The building you see behind the tree's trunk is the back of the Stables, which is now a private residence.

  1. Yes, isn't it wonderful how the flowers have all suddenly emerged over the last week, It has almost been worth the long winter for them to all come out with such a co-ordinated display

  4. I followed the Leeds-Liverpool canal link back to older posts. You have some stunning photos of it! The Trent & Mersey is about 2 miles from my house, which really requires a drive if any significant walk along the towpath is to be done. I still appreciate it being there though.

  7. Snowdrops are such lovely delicate flowers. glad for you that spring is on the way, which means we have autumn, but it is nice to have cooler weather even though it would be classed as hot by your standards 28C.
