Golden light

The weak spring sunshine, low in the sky late one afternoon, seemed to touch the pussy willow by Saltaire's New Mill with a sprinkling of gold.  (April Fool's Gold perhaps?)

I have played up the effect a bit in Photoshop, thinking the photo lent itself to a bit of 'antiquing'.  I'm trying to teach myself how to use textures and blending modes.  I'm making slow progress but it's fun.  I'm wondering now if I should have cropped this a bit more, to get rid of some of the sky and reflection on the left that is too bright.... but I still quite like the image.

  1. I like it like this! a kind of sepia mood, and the view becomes romantic, nostalgic and sweet..out of time! you've done well!

  2. Oh, I think it's perfect...but I'm left wondering whether there's some underlying April Fool's prank in all of this that I've missed :)

And, you may not believe this, but the word verification showing up for me to type right now is...jokedo!

How did you manage to pull that one off, Jenny?

  3. It sure is a pretty image. The leaves are golden but overall it looks like an autumn shot.

  4. I THINK you can define an area and change the brightness in just a part of the picture using Photoshop... you might need to use layers to do it.

Don't crop it to get rid of it - the composition is lovely!

  10. You can't fool us. That is just an old postcard you got from Alan....
I suppose you could paint the sky a bit yellow at 20%...
That would definitely fit the April Fool thing?
    Nice Composition. Well Done.
