Not so perfect...

Regular readers of this blog will remember me talking about this tree very close to my home, which I always think of as 'the perfect tree'.  It's a type of rowan and has white blossom in spring followed by red berries and then the leaves turn a pretty red before falling.  What makes it special (to me) is its storybook tree shape, so perfectly formed, although no-one trims it. (I'm slightly tempted to chop off that one little branch that is hanging down out of shape!)  I've shown pictures of it before, with berries and then in winter with bare branches.  Michael and Hanne wanted to know what the blossom was like so, as it has blossom right now, I set off to take a photo.  But there is a snag....  For months now there has been this tatty blue VW Beetle parked right beside it.  It looks a write-off to me - the rear axle appears to have failed and the rear wheels are sticking out at drunken angles.  So it needs carting off to the scrap yard, not leaving there to spoil the view!  (Maybe this will shame the owner into dealing with it!)

  1. Can you identify an owner? As the VW is on a public highway, you are well within your rights to report it to the police as a possibly abandoned vehicle. They will then investigate and either tell the owner to move it (assuming it is owned) or have it towed (if an owner cannot be located).

    With or without the V-dub.

  3. I'm with H on this one. Report it to your local council and the police and it's their responsibility to clear it up and deal with the registered owner.

  4. It is a beautiful tree in winter, spring and berry time. It looks like someone just painted into the picture. I agree ask the council to investigate the VW.

  5. The tree is lovely! Too bad about the unsightly car.

  6. See, if you hadn't put the 'perfect tree' and 'less than perfect VW beetle' in that photo, I might have been confused LOL
It's a beautiful tree. The beetle just emphasizes the tree's beauty. I'm sure the beetle-owner put it there with that thought in mind. Or perhaps not... ;-)

  8. It has the look of a playing card. Perhaps the VW beetle is its' fruit, perhaps when the fruit first falls it is a new VW golf but if left uncollected on the ground it slowly decays into an old VW beetle. Or, there again, perhaps I have had too many beers tonight.

  9. It may be the thousand posts Alan. Looking forward to a picture of flowers taken from the roof of the VW. Alan will help you up.

  10. Forget the car. I think you need to attend to that out-of-place limb. You need to put a pruner in your bag, walk up to the tree, look around very casually, and if the coast is clear . . . reach up and prune it! On my evening walks I have improved many an ungainly tree in my neighborhood. My daughter calls me Jack The Clipper.

  11. It is a perfect shape for sure. I bet that car is a part of a crime and it sets there waiting for the police to discover it's part in the bad deed.

  12. I've seen a handful of these seemingly abandoned wrecks here in Bucharest. But I don't have a perfect tree to contrast them with. :-)
