Star light

Family life has been so exciting of late (!) that I don't seem to feel like I need Christmas on top of it - and I sense that others are finding it a bit hard to get into the right frame of mind too, for one reason or another.  With the global economic gloom and the news from the Eurozone, everything seems rather depressing.  I have to say that I'm glad I'm not a retailer or market trader.  There was a Christmas market in Shipley yesterday but there didn't seem to be many shoppers.  I'm only going to be spending about half of what I'd usually spend on gifts and I guess that's true for others too.  Even the Christmas lights seem a bit sparse this year.  I walked all the way up to Shipley's main square to take a photo of the (very modern) Christmas tree, only to find it wasn't even lit!  Still I did find this star illumination against the background of Shipley's clock tower (the tower a 60's design that you either love or hate).  I did take several photos of the illuminations that were pin-sharp - but perversely preferred this one, where my hand slipped!

  1. A happy accident, jenny. One that's produced a very nice result, indeed.

  2. Euro or pounds, we are all sitting in the same boat ! Here too it seems that people spent far less for Christmas than last year !

  3. You may get by with it this year, Jennyfreckles, but next year that grandbaby will be one year old and Christmas is going to regain all that it's lost. We're really looking forward to having our 2 1/2 year-old grand daughter with us this year. Jim

  4. Your star is the perfect symbol for this Xmas 2011: a bit blurred, uncertain, but there anyway..

  5. Serendipity: Look for something, find something else and realise that what you found is better suited to your needs than that which you sought in the first place. . . Nice photograph . .

  6. I love this look too! I like the movement. Our little grandson is coming tomorrow...kids are at the hospital now...thinking of you with your little bundle this Christmas. (o:

  7. what a cool photo!

It really isn't in what you spend anyway, is it? In harder times, I think we all realize this even more and concentrate on the blessings that money can't buy.

  8. I like it, too, Jenny. It is a coincidence, because this morning I was looking at an out of focus picture of mine and trying to decide whether to put it on the blog. You still might see it before the end of the Christmas season.

  11. The blur of your star is about how I feel about the silly season. My honey and I are skipping it entirely this year and will go south to enjoy a couple of days together, then joining others at resort post-25th. I agree it
is not a good year to be a retailer. But I do hope you have a blessed time together with your family, Jenny!
