We're there!

Getting into the Olympic Park entailed a brief but good-humoured (and no waiting) trip through airport style security, staffed by young armed forces personnel. They were drafted in due to the well-documented failure of the security firm originally employed to provide enough staff. I think the troops were enjoying themselves - it was probably better than a tour in Afghanistan!
Then came the first glimpse of the Athletics Stadium - and the Aquatics Centre, jutting out on the left edge like a giant Mexican hat.
On the right, my granddaughter, looking a bit bemused so far....

  1. But your granddaughter will be able to say on her Blog in 70 years time : I was there, I went with my mum and my gran, and I have this old photo to prove it.

  4. What excitement! And I'm not surprised to hear that things were well organised and crowds were mannerly. It's what I's expect from Eng;and. Love your shot of the Tower Bridge.

  5. I envy you. I have logged many hours of watching the Olympics. Your granddaughter will brag years from now that she was there with mom and grandma.

  8. I had a friendly chat with the young soldier who checked my bag. He hailed from Rochdale and was thoroughly enjoying himself :)

The Police seemed to be having a good time too. A group of around 4 officers were high-fiving people leaving the park at the end of the evening; sharing a friendly word and a laugh. It was a lovely carnival atmosphere!
