Kettlewell Village Store

One of those shops that sells pretty much everything you might need! - general grocery items, newspapers, lottery tickets, beer and wine, fruit and veg, bread and cakes, meat, frozen foods, chilled goods, sweets and chocolate, cigarettes, and local produce including ice cream and Wensleydale dairy cheeses. Oh yes, fishing nets too! It has modern fittings inside (fridges etc) of course, but looks little changed on the outside. It's a long way to the nearest supermarket, so the villagers and visitors will be glad of it.

  1. Love these shops!! One I know well in Staithes, North Yorks sells kippers from Whitby freshly smoked, coal and a great variety of interesting things besides.

  3. That's a fabulous photograph and enhanced by the way you have been able to selectively colour it (or, more likely, selectively monochrome it). The image suits the technique so well.

  4. A boon for the villagers of Kettlewell. Love that name. It looks like a prop out of a dickens story.

  5. I like how you changed the tones in the picture. This is a dissappearing feature in a lot of areas. I have one I have gone to for close to 50 years, and it was that old when I started going there. So what do they catch around there to use those fishing nets?

  6. Oh my gosh I'd never get out of that store. I just love those. Did you see "Needful Things"? Those kind. Sans the devil, that is. :)

  8. Oh yes! Rain it certainly did. Not my worst ever though. One in Shepton almost made us pack up and leave; another few millimetres...

Sorry you're not able to go this year. It would have been nice to have a coffee together. Another time :)

  10. This is my Dad's shop.
It is a fantastic shop, and loved by the villagers and vistors alike.
He prides himself on selling everything you could need - including fishing nets, which the kids love to use in the village beck - and lots of local, organic produce.
I'm really glad you like it!

He's recently opened a small model village in the basement which is well worth a visit (I'm biased of course) - with working train, cars and village noises!
