"I've looked at clouds from both sides now...." was the line that came into my head when I thought about posting this photo, another shot of the lake at Harewood. Isn't it interesting how deeply those songs we listened to in our youth become embedded in our brains? I haven't listened to Joni Mitchell for years now, but still the lyrics - from "Both Sides Now" - are there waiting to leap into my consciousness.
"Still somehow it's clouds' illusions I recall; I really don't know clouds at all."
(Hmm, isn't it interesting as well that sometimes what you end up blogging about is a complete surprise - even to you!)

I remember this song in "Love actually",( emma Thompson loves it), and also in "You've got a mail",( tom hanks is speaking of it with Meg Ryan). I love this song very much; When Joni Mitchell wrote it, she was not a lot more than 20 years old, but she already understood everything about love and life...

ReplyDeleteAnd just like it is the cloud illusion that I recall, I recall that when I first heard that song I was young, carefree, the sun was always shining and you could get a decent pint of beer for 20p.

ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I bought a Joni Mitchell LP (yes a vinyl disc) yesterday. It was used and had one track on it that I haven't been able to find on iTunes. The album is called Shadows and Light and the track is the Frankie Lyman hit 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' I wanted it mainly for the saxophone solos. True story.
Let's not forget that Joni Mitchell is Canadian, born in Saskatchewan. Of course she hasn't lived here in ages but I understand she has a home somewhere up the coast in B.C.
Oh I get this so totally Jenny. I had a string of 'em the other week. I think it's the right brain doing its thing... Creative types often say they don't know what the outcome is until they're done... painters, writers.. Joni's song matches your lovely photo perfectly.

I remember that song being a solo in our school play the year I left junior school; which is quite a while ago now :)
