Aint nothin but a hound dog..

Another 'looking up' find.... I have puzzled to discover the origins of this dog, perched high up on a building in Bradford's Northgate.  I was pretty sure it was a pub sign and I think I've found the answer in 'Bradford's Timeline', which says in 1893 "The Greyhound Inn, Northgate - closed".  I imagine this building was the Greyhound Inn and, although the inn closed almost 120 years ago, the faithful dog still sits waiting and watching.  What a lot of change he must have seen.

  3. He's lovely. I hope someone looks after him when the building's restored (or maybe even demolished). It looks in need of it.

  4. A gem of a find indeed, well done. I have never noticed the dog before but intend to seek it out at the next opertunity.
Coincidentally could I direct your attention to the former Baby Clinic in Wilton Street, off Morley Street, (directly opposite the Kashmir restaurant) whereone can find the most enchantingly sculpted images of a couple of infants.

  5. I know some greyhound lovers who'd love this statue. Better not let them know where it is... ;-)

  8. That's amazing that no one wanted to take him as a souvenir and he became long forgotten. So neat that you found out that info about it. ~Lili

  11. The building behind looks a bit "frayed at the cuff." It and the statue bring to mind the dog that refuses to leave the master's grave even to eat. Jim
