A profusion of flowers

There was (and I believe still is) an annual competition for the best kept small garden in Saltaire.  Since many of the houses don't actually have front gardens, it's worth creeping along the back alleys to find colourful sights like this.

  1. You did well to find attractive Petunias; most of them are getting spoiled by the rain. Maybe the owner takes the pots in when the heavens open!

  5. My attention was drawn to the blue pipes, as well. I'm guessing indoor plumbing was added well after the houses were built, with the drains put on the outside during the retrofit?

  9. Marvelous and I too love the pipes! My family has Yorkshire heritage. My son just asked me to send it all to him. A lovely photo and beautiful blog you have.

  11. Sadly, the best back-yard contest fizzled out a few years ago, but I do note that this year's Saltaire Festival is due to include open gardens on the first week-end (8/9 Sept)of this year's event.
