Intimations....

I hope you don't mind a 'boast post' .... I was really thrilled to get home on Christmas Eve and find this book delivered through the letterbox. Some time ago I was contacted by an editor at Cambridge University Press for permission to use one of my photos as a book cover - and here it is! Apparently the author spotted the picture on the internet, traced it to my blog and wanted to use it. The power of Google, eh? I'd like to say I'll read the book but I doubt I have the staying power really. However, I hope it does well for the author and publisher, in what is presumably quite a specialist field. I never take photos with any other thought than the joy of the moment and sometimes the suitability for this blog - but it is always a delight when other people like my pictures, and a double joy when they are useful to someone.

This is my second book cover. I begin to wonder if there is a possible avenue after retirement....? I'd never really given book covers much thought until recently, and then someone came to my camera club and gave a talk, during which they mentioned that they quite frequently sell their work to publishers.

  1. Wow you are famous. Congrats. It is a good pic for the title. I like your coined word a "boast post" it made me giggle. The web is pretty wonderful. I was contacted by the National Museum asking to use one of my old photos which I posted in a story about the Australian School of Pacific Administration that I attended in the early sixties. It gives you a buzz doesn't it?

  2. Didn't realise you were an international lawyer! :-) I shall look out for it in the Cambridge University Press bookshop, but I don't think I'll be buying a copy. Sorry.

  3. Hi Jenny - this one too .. what great fun ... and as you say no wonder you're on cloud 9 - and yes, there are some clouds in the photo. I'd have thought it's certainly an idea to explore more of ...

Your photos are always excellent - and to find you've inspired publishers to reach out to you .. is amazing - just such a great honour. The net is amazing isn't it ... my blog put an Afrikaans journalist from Cape Town in touch with a cousin of my mother's in Vancouver Island because I'd written about Emily Hobhouse, a Cornish welfare campaigner ... but I was only the connector. Your photo has been taken up on pure merit ...

Wonderful .. and so many congratulations ... cheers Hilary

  9. Bravo, jennyfreckles. Having one book cover is quite a compliment to your photography, but having two gets you nominated for the Royal Academy! Thanks for the links. I went back and re-read your post about the first book cover, and that led me to the comments about copyright. A most interesting trail of bread crumbs.
