I mentioned last Monday the 'Believe in Shipley' festival, ten days of celebration of our Christian faith, organised by fourteen local churches of all denominations. The festival culminated in The Big Picnic, which was originally the brainchild of a young woman in my own church and involved lots of volunteers from all our churches, plus the support and help of many local businesses and organisations. It took place in Saltaire's Roberts Park and it was a free event for all the local community. There was free picnic food (they gave out 2200 picnic bags, all lovingly prepared by church volunteers), more cake than you knew could exist in one place and even free ice creams. There were loads of free activities including a bouncy castle, rodeo bull, games, football, a tug of war, a puppet show, music, nail and face painting, kite flying, a birds of prey demonstration and lots more. It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying themselves. And it didn't rain!

Nice to see the whole community out enjoying themselves; I'm sure the free cake would help!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably not visit that event, but each to his or her own I guess.
ReplyDeleteAll in all a wonderful community event, more towns and cities should have them. I bet it feels a little strange not to have to wake up for work in the morning Jenny, strange but very nice I'm sure 😊😊
ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone had fun!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like there was a good crowd.
