Lights

I was out with my camera and tripod taking photos of the Living Advent Calendar windows and then I got a bit carried away!  Saltaire looks different and slightly mysterious at night - especially against the eerie sodium glare from the city street lights that casts a golden glow across the night sky.  This is a view of the New Mill seen from Roberts Park, across the river.  The reflected lights make it an obvious choice for Weekend Reflections this week. (For more interpretations on the theme of reflections,  please go to James' Newtown Area Photo).  I'm still a novice at night photography but it produces some interesting images so I shall resolve to get some more practice.

For a view of the New Mill from a similar vantage point but in the daylight, please see here.

  5. I bought a big pukka, all sing all dancing tripod about 20 years ago - one day I'll use it.
    Nice shot of the mill.

  6. Very atmospheric! I love the difference between the texture of the water above the weir and below it.

  7. Nice one, Jenny. It seems that you have figured out how to do these night shots. I'm lousy still.

  8. This is a stunning night shot! I have not yet learned how to do this. I never thought of using a tripod, perhaps this would help. ~Lili

  9. Oh Jenny, this is an absolutely breath-taking photo! I just love it!

Thank you for your comment on our little neighborhood country church. They made two arrests connected with the fire and sadly one involved the son of friends. It must be so horrid for them. They are wonderful people and already there are comments that this young man must have had a bad upbringing. It is so unfair and untrue.

  11. Jenny, I had to tell you - I just showed that amazing photo to my husband. He sighed and said, 'There's just something not right about this (meaning that he envies you having all that great photo subject matter at hand!)...I suppose we could take a picture of the squirrel at the feeder.' LOL

  17. Very pretty night scene. I love night scenes. The building looks like the movie version of a sanitarium at night. I do really like the water in the foreground and the reflection.

  24. This is a converted mill, correct? How nice they preserved it rather than tearing it down. You can almost close your eyes and imagine what sounds came from this when it was a working mill. The belfry is spectacular. Nicely done!

  31. Great shot. It's a lesson to me that not all night photography needs to be lit from the outside. I rediscovered my interest in this subject recently but it was so funny as the tripod was sliding on the ice.
