Are you trying to make me look like an ass?

Meet Warrior and Cheyenne - a much more cuddly pair than their names would suggest.  They were two of about six donkeys providing rides for children at this year's Bingley Show.  It's an English seaside tradition to have donkey rides along the beach.  I can still remember the feel of their warm, rough hair against my shorts-clad legs as a child, and the sound of the bells on their harness.  Sadly, I'm too old for rides now... but I was pleased to see the tradition continued at the Show and there were lots of happy kiddies laying down memories for the future.

[Yes, I know this photo would have been better with a bit of depth of field blur on the cluttered background.  My camera won't do that.... but my new one might!  ;-) ]

  3. Two gorgeous donkeys and I can imagine the joy they brought to the many children who were fortunate to take a ride.

  4. I can't imagine many donkeys would want to carry my weight these days. Even I am not happy carrying my weight. 'Wish I was young again.

  5. It was also a tradition in the city of Menton, not far from here. There are great pictures of the ladies who cared about the donkeys. yes, being a kid for a few minutes, sometimes...

  6. Loved the plaids, ribbons, and bells decorating the donkeys. We may have mule-cart rides are our festivals, but I've never seen the animals so dressed up! Jim

  9. Now, jennyfreckles, there is no good reason why you still can't take a ride. Go find your youthful innocence and enthusiasm again and get on one of those donkeys.

  12. They do look a docile pair in fancy dress. I remember riding donkeys or maybe ponies on Blackpool Bach 60 years ago (ye gads that makes me old). You can blur the background with photo shop but I don't know how to use photo shop. If you set your camera to macro and take the photo that should blur the background. Looking forward to hearing about the new camera.

  13. They are so sweet looking, but riding them with shorts must be a little uncomfortable! It IS so nice to see a tradition continued though, isn't it?! ~Lili
