Open Gardens 5: Eucalyptus

This large, sunny garden has as its focal point these three Eucalyptus trees, with their distinctive 'camouflage' bark pattern. They will be very familiar to some of you but they are not native to, nor common, in this country. They certainly have the 'wow' factor here.

  1. We have some of these eucalyptus trees just around the corner from us in the park. They are the kind from which the bark keeps peeling, leaving a smooth surface underneath. But not only a smooth surface, but some very pretty pastel shades of pink, green, blue and purple. In fact I had decided to take my camera with me next time we walk that way, so maybe I'll get some shots -- but not as good as yours! There are several different kinds of eucalyptus trees and we have VERY many in Carlsbad.

  2. Lovely bark on those trees! I'm glad you told what kind they are!
